Penrhyn Wednesdays were the first team to be based in Penrhynside early in
the last century, and played in the Wednesday afternoon league. By the
early1930`s archives show that "Penrhyn United" were playing in the Vale of
Conwy football league, winning the championship in 1932-33 and retaining the
trophy the following season. But by the end of the decade football had ceased to
be played from the village.
A forty year gap elapsed before a team was formed again playing in the Old
Colwyn,Llandudno and District Sunday League under the Cross Keys Inn title but
lasted only one season.In1985-86 Penrhyn United was reformed playing in the Old
Colwyn,Llandudno and District Sunday League under the shrewd management of our
now club President Eifion Jones, but by the end of the 1986-87 season football
had again ceased in the village.
After a lot of deliberation and the forming of a strong committee "Penrhyn"
was resurrected in 1992 again playing in the Old Colwyn,Llandudno and
District Sunday League. By 1996 they had re-acquainted themselves with the Vale
of Conwy League winning their first trophy in 1999 and then being promoted to
the Clwyd in 2000.
Penrhynside F.C. were formed in March 2005 |
